Since we were in northern Kentucky, we decided to try a trail in southern Indiana for our 5th and final hike on this mid-winter trip. We picked the Hemlock Cliffs trail because it descended into a box canyon (rare for this part of the country) filled with waterfalls. We were hoping to find frozen waterfalls. Unfortunately, it rained a couple of days before our hike followed by several inches of snow followed by temperatures in the low 20s when we arrived which made for dangerously slippery trail conditions. We decided not to hike to the bottom of the canyon and just stayed in the forest above the canyon. We also played in the snow in the parking lot.
