Hell's Gate written in red on a map caught my attention because it wasn't far from where we were staying for a few days in British Columbia. A little research revealed that Hell's Gate featured a rare reverse gondola (Hell's Gate Airtram) that takes riders from the top to the bottom of a narrow section of Fraser Canyon.

Both of Canada's Trans-Continental Railways pass through Fraser Canyon. The first completed in 1848 and the second in 1914. Both rail lines pass through hundreds of tunnels and bridges. Building the rails proved difficult and costly. On average, four workers were killed per mile in Fraser Canyon.
